Signal consistency, intent drift, and why the best creators deviate least
Most creators experience random performance spikes they can't explain and drops they can't predict. This isn't bad luck - it's signal drift.
When a post's intent, structure, and proof type don't align with the creator's established pattern, the algorithm and the audience both sense the inconsistency - before they consciously register it.
Top-tier creators drift far less often than inconsistent ones, and the gap shows. Holding the same recognisable pattern post after post is an architectural choice, not a lack of imagination.
The 5 Signal Consistency Dimensions
Intent mix (target ratio vs actual distribution across Teach, Inspire, Provoke, Connect, Sell, Entertain)
Content pillar concentration (Method, Case Study, POV, Story, News, BTS)
Structural archetype (Hook → List, Story → Insight, Contrarian → Proof, Direct Instruction)
Proof type (Conviction, Rhetorical Question, Data/Evidence, Case Study)
Hook type (Contrarian, Data/Stat, Question, Story, Generic)
Why Consistency Outperforms Variety
The highest-performing creators don't have the most varied content - they have the most consistent signal architecture.
They've found 2-3 structural patterns that work for their audience, and they execute them with precision.
Alex Hormozi is the canonical example: one hook style, one structure, one intent, run on the overwhelming majority of his posts. His audience knows exactly what they are getting, and so does the algorithm.
Detecting and Correcting Signal Drift
Run a Signal Drift Detector on your last 3 posts: classify intent, structure type, and proof type for each.
When drift appears (a Teach post with no method signal, say), expect weaker results. Drift correlates with weaker top-band performance across the corpus.
The fix: return to your core structural patterns and re-establish consistency before experimenting with new formats.
