Art of Posting - Lesson 6

Tone Positioning

How POV strength and conviction signals shape authority and trust

The most dangerous tone for a LinkedIn creator is 'polite.' Polite posts agree with everyone, offend no one, and are noticed by no one.

We do not have a POV score in the corpus, so this lesson makes no performance claim about it. What we can say is what the measurable structural signals did: word count and cognitive load both correlate with engagement at effectively zero, and the archetype a creator writes in barely shifts their Exceptional rate.

Which leaves the part no metric captures. Tone is where you decide whether the post is worth disagreeing with, and that decision is yours rather than the model's.

Tone Dimensions

POV Clarity: how definitive is your position? (Strong / Moderate / Weak)

Conviction Level: does the post take a stance or report findings?

Authority Register: Expert voice vs Experience voice vs Conviction voice

Tension Coefficient: does the post create a productive intellectual friction?

Strong POV vs Opinion

A strong POV doesn't mean being divisive. It means having a thesis: a specific, falsifiable claim about how things work.

'Quality beats quantity' is an opinion. 'In the weeks a creator posts more, they reach more people, and 23 of the 23 creators measured at seven posts a week beat their own two-post weeks' is a thesis, because it names something someone can go and check. That matters more than it sounds: the figure this lesson used to quote here was checkable, was checked, and turned out to be an artefact of comparing different creators. A thesis is not better than an opinion because it sounds precise. It is better because it can be wrong.

Building Your Authority Thesis

Write the claim so that a reasonable person in your field could argue with it. If nobody could disagree, you have described the weather.

Then check you can back it: a number you can source, a case you ran, or something you got wrong and changed your mind about. A thesis you cannot support is a slogan.
